The head designer at Mon Moir, Diana Lerato George is a trained textile designer, which gives an interesting perspective, to the process of designing a garment. The fabric is therefore the focal point at the initial stage of design, forming the most important aspect of the garment.
Having trained and studied in London and Italy at leading design schools, Diana has a firm knowledge base as to how the industry works overseas and a large network of contacts there.
Diana returned to South Africa in July 2003 and plans to share the knowledge and skills she picked up overseas, by making people more aware of South African design, both locally and internationally.
Mon Moir’s niche market is knitwear, but interesting printed and woven fabrics are incorporated into collections, often depicting artworks and images in its subtlest forms.
As each garment is made from scratch, the designers at Mon Moir have full control over the whole manufacturing process from start to finish, staring initially with the yarn which is dyed up and knitted to the beading of the garment at the end of the process.
